+ History Lesson Time! - Salvatore Ferragamo is recognized highly for his influence in the world of footwear and fashion. He established his footwear company in 1928 in Florence, Italy, and the company is still in operation today. The company is currently owned by the Ferragamo family because Salvatore Ferragamo died at the age of just 62 in 1960. He had a very influential career, and is known for his many innovative designs, one of which he is most notably known for is his invention of the “Cage Heel.”
